Patience is a Virtue??

Well lots of little things going on with Avery Mae but nothing as far as the big picture is concerned. She is still on lots of medications at high doses and is still very fragile and considered critical. Her heart is still going strong and her oxygen is at 40% now. They also have taken out a chest tube and removed some arterial lines. Today they made braces for her wrists and ankles so she does not develop shortened tendons. She is still on general antibiotics because of high risk of infection with all of the open wounds. The heart doctor will possibly take out the chest separator today if all is ok. This is all a long process that means things can improve or get worse. Right now one step forward to us means nothing happens...which is positive in our world! We are still not out of the woods and appreciate all the thoughts and prayers!-Shane

  1. Watching those tubes leave one by one is really exciting. We will specifically pray for the antibiotics to work. Lots of love -

  2. Yes, patience is a virtue earned through trials and tribulations. God has led you this far and will continue to guide you. I'm so excited to hear of the forward progress. Baby steps are great! As you know, all kids do things in their own time. Baby Ave is just already showing that she & God have got everything under control! Still praying for strength & healing. You guys rest up while Avery is recovering, because I have a feeling she's going to give you a run for your money soon.

Good news that everything is progressing. I'm sure that this does not mean that there will not still be downfalls, but she has proven over and over again that she is a fighter. Still praying for God's healing hand and comfort for you all. He and Avery are working this out together. Shane, if there is anything at all that we can do, please let us know. Love to you all.

We check your posts daily and thank God that He is helping Avery to take one little step forward each day. That is how battles are won: one step at a time, one day at a time. He is holding her hand as they fight this battle together. There is a purpose for her going through this. She, and all of you, will be made stronger because of it, so just maintain faith that all will be well in God's timing. He loves all of you and is well aware of you and your needs. My thoughts and prayers to you all each day. Goldie McGarrah

Take it from someone who has been before right were you are now. Each day may sometimes not seem much different than the day before, but its all those quiet and "uneventful" days that get a kid home safe and sound. At this point in the journey, it can seem like an endless battle, but it does get better. My daughter was at ACH in CVICU for 21 weeks. She had 4 heart surgeries before she was 2 1/2 months old. Today she is 20 months old. She still takes 9 meds every day, and still has a feeding schedule of a newborn eating through a button, but other than that, shes closer to "normal" everyday. As normal as any heart kid can ever be. Hang in there. Avery is one tough cookie. But think of the stories she will tell one day. Take care.

Yes the steps are small, but they are steps toward the end result--a happy little girl playing with her sister. As tubes are removed and incisions heal, she will gain strength to move forward in her recovery. She is a miracle baby, and has a few more she is saving for the future. (Never can have too many miracles lying around) She needs your loving touch and familiar voices to carry her through. Prayers Kathy Rae
