Monday Evening Update

I heard from Shane a little while ago...

They did find a clot during Avery's CT scan. At first, they didn't see anything, but when they took a second look they saw the clot. Shane said they have been told that it could be bad and it could be nothing. It seems that right now it's not their main concern. They are continuing to wean Avery off of ECMO for the second time. I'm guessing that other issues will be addressed after that.

Shane said he and Carissa are worn out! I know this journey that they're on is beyond exhausting. So tonight, please pray for a restful night for the two of them and for Avery to continue to take baby steps in the right direction. But, most of all, please pray for God's grace to surround the Keirsey family as they continue down this uncertain path.

  1. I've been thinking of Avery often all day and hoping for continued positive reports. Shane and Carissa keep your strength up, get as much rest as possible, eat with each other and try to take breaks when you can. I know the feeling of wanting to be by the baby's bedside every moment, but you just can't be. You need to rest and recover from stressful days so you can start another one.

We are praying for you and Avery.

    Sincerely,
    Sarah

  2. Dear Lord, I echo this prayer for a good night's sleep for this family. I pray for strength, grace and guidance for Shane and Carissa. And be with Baby Avery. Hold each one of their weak bodies and give them strength for each new day. In Jesus' name...

  3. Carissa and Shane,
You are both so brave and are doing such a wonderful job supporting Avery and Kaitlyn. I cannot imagine how hard this is for you all. Avery has come so far and she is such a little fighter. I know she's doing her best and so are the doctors. I am thinking of you constantly and hope little Avery will make it through this very tough time. Please let me know if you need anything at all.

I hope Avery's ECMO weans go very well and she is able to come off of ECMO soon. Sending Avery positive energy to have a good restful night and continues to stay strong.

  7. I always save this information for parents at this point. We never posted this on the blog, but I hope it helps give your family some hope. Carter had 4 failed attempts at cycling off ECMO, and was finally successful on the 5th try. We were about to go nuts wondering when, or IF, he'd ever do it. They also found a clot in his brain on a head MRI after ECMO. As you can see, Carter is just fine now (except for the reflux monster!). The docs didn't seem too concerned about the clot, and as you know by now, if they were concerned about Avery's they would be acting on it.

Do NOT lose hope and don't give up. We're praying hard and thinking of you often. Avery is a strong little princess and she'll do everything when she's ready.

  9. I just stopped my reading and said a prayer for little Avery and family. It brings tears to my eyes to read this because not long ago we were going though the same thing. My daughter and her huband were at the hospital for 7 weeks. I'm sure our diagnosis was different but it was still open heart surgery and there will be at least one more in the future, ir not 2. But God is with you, there was nothing like the presence of Him when we were facing this. Know that you have his arms wrapped around you and that sweet baby. We don't know what tomorrow brings, but whatever it is, He will be with you. You will continuously be in my prayers, and I'm so sorry you are having to go through this, BUT you will learn something......listen.....Debbie

  10. Sorry to hear about Avery's clot but as Carter's parents said, if the doctors were concered, they would be acting on it. We are thinking of your precious little Avery and hoping that the weaning off ECMO goes smoothly.
    Hugs from the UK.
